Are you a new student arriving at Chalmers in January 2018?
We are sure that some of you are feeling worried, scared or just plain weird and that you’re probably wondering how things are at Chalmers and Göteborg, what you must, must not, can and cannot do, whether you’ll make friends easily, language, accommodation, study programs and the topics go on and on.
It might be a good idea to go through the FAQ- Frequently Asked Questions to answer some of the common questions.
Wherever you are from (irrespective of whether you are Swedish or International) and whatever your study program - Erasmus or 2 year Masters), Chalmers International Reception Committee wishes to extend a warm and friendly welcome to you. And just how do we plan to do that? We’ve been working on planning and executing a reception/orientation period meant exclusively for you.
I want a PHADDER!
Once you register, CIRC will start working on trying to find a Phadder for you. Your Phadder will contact you and the rest of your Phadder group a week before the reception starts. We respond to every application and everyone who aplies to get a Phadder will definitely get one!

What or Who is a PHADDER?
Literally, the word Phadder (plural “Phaddrar”) means “god-father”/”god-parent” spelled with a “Ph” to sound cool (Sw. “fadder”/”faddrar”). It can be loosely interpreted as a College Parent. A Phadder is a friend/god-father/god-mother to new students at Chalmers. A Phadder is assigned to a group of 8-12 people which become a Phadder group.

A Phadder is a student who is currently studying at Chalmers. He/she has completed 6 months – 1 year of studies at Chalmers and has volunteered to help new students. Typically a Phadder is a kind and social person interested in giving a helping hand to new students and making friends with people from various different countries and cultures.
